Yacht race online tracking system

Yacht coordinated on-line tracking system enables a user to see on-line the yacht location, speed and direction of the certain yacht. To determine the object’s position navigational satellite GPS receivers are used. The information transmission to the dispatch center is carried out via cellular communication GSM channel.

PROBLEM:

During the Russian Championship the spectators want to get as much visual information concerning the competition course as possible. Thus, there appeared an immediate problem to develop a system enabling the spectators to follow on-line the yacht movement as well as view the history and the certain moments of the competition.

SOLUTION:

SimbirSoft Ltd. was committed to develop the system. The system was written with PHP and comprised a Java applet to display the map, location and motion parameters.

General component description:
The yacht coordinated on-line tracking system enables a user to see on-line the yacht location, speed and direction of the certain yacht. To determine the object’s position navigational satellite GPS receivers are used. The information transmission to the dispatch center is carried out via cellular communication GSM channel. At stated intervals the server receives short text messages with navigational data from the certain yacht. This data is stored into MySQL database and used by the Web server to be displayed on the map. The system provides the user with the following information:

  • the map display;
  • the competitors’ profiles;
  • on-line display of the yacht location and movement parameters;
  • the possibility to see the situation at the moment in the past;
  • the possibility to view the route on the map;
  • the possibility to watch the animated video of the whole yacht race;
  • the possibility to watch the certain moments of the yacht race;
  • Etc.
