Creation of a VR Simulator for Simulating the Patient Reception Process for a Medical University
The SimbirSoft team developed a VR simulator that allows students to learn the patient reception process in real time.
The simulator helped them develop clinical thinking and improve communication skills. Previously inexperienced students often faced challenges when interacting with real patients. The use of such a simulator ensured a higher quality of training for future doctors.
Subsequently, it will contribute to improving the level of medical care and the implementation of innovative teaching methods in the educational process.
We designed a virtual doctor's office. Together with the client's employees, we formulated a scenario that reflects the key actions of a doctor according to regulatory documents. Based on the agreed scenario, we developed the VR simulator. In the simulation, users acquire skills for conducting medical examinations of patients.
Customer
Client: Medical University.
Task
Business task: To train students in the patient reception process using virtual reality technology.
Development task: To create a realistic VR simulator that will effectively teach students medical processes.
Solution
We designed a virtual doctor's office. Together with the client's staff, we formulated a scenario that reflects the key actions of a doctor according to regulatory documents. Based on the agreed-upon scenario, we developed the VR simulator.
In the simulation, users acquire skills for conducting medical examinations of patients.
The VR simulator recreates the situation of conducting a patient reception procedure, from the introduction to the diagnosis and provision of recommendations.
Stages
1. Design and approval of the simulator scenario and its visual concept (3 days).
2. Prototyping the scenario in the form of simulator mechanics (2 weeks).
3. Creating the scene for the simulator and the visual components of the entire application — from UI to 3D objects for scene filling (2 weeks, parallel to scenario prototyping).
4. Incorporating client feedback based on the prototype and finalizing it into a complete product (1 week).
5. Testing and adjustments (2 weeks).
Result
With the help of the VR simulator, students at the medical university can undergo training that closely resembles real-life situations with numerous diverse scenarios.
This psychologically prepares students to work with people.
During accreditation, students who practiced their skills in the VR simulator received higher scores from examiners.
Additionally, students reported that after training in the simulator, they no longer experienced issues in communicating with real patients.
