Development of a Laser Welding System for VPG Laserone
We developed an intelligent system for the laser welding installation of stainless steel rolls, which ensures high welding speed and quality while simplifying the operator's work.
Customer
VPG Laserone (formerly IRE-Polus) is a technological leader in the laser industry. It is a globally recognized leader in the fiber laser and amplifier market, as well as in devices and systems based on them.
Task
To support import substitution of welding equipment, it was necessary to develop software for a specialized welding installation that would ensure stable operation in automatic mode with a 24/7 load. It was expected that after commissioning and putting the installation into operation, the client would be able to launch production and sales of equipment with the built-in software.
Solution
The team worked on the project remotely in three stages:
1. Software development and testing on a simulator;
2. On-site debugging at the client's facility: configuration of the drive system, setup of sensors, flow meters, etc.;
3. Commissioning: configuration of the auto-correction system, debugging the installation as part of an automatic pipe production line.
Result
In 9 months, we successfully developed an intelligent system for the laser installation that provides:
Convenient Manual Control:
- Allows manual positioning of the laser along the pipe (X-axis) and adjustment of the focus (Z-axis);
- Displays the welding process on a screen via a video surveillance system;
- Provides the ability to make online adjustments to the welding mode.
Stable Welding Quality:

Automatic correction of the laser position (Y-axis) using a 2D scanner ensures continuous tracking of the weld joint position on the pipe;

Adjustment of protective gas (argon) supply for optimal quality of the welded joint.

Currently, the SimbirSoft team continues to support the software remotely and carries out improvements based on client requests.
