Development of a Sleep Management App for Askona
At SimbirSoft, we have been helping to develop Askona Sleep for the second year and are experiencing the results ourselves. In this case study, we will discuss how we worked on features with "surgical precision," changed the tech stack, set up support chat in social media, updated the frontend architecture on the fly, and tested new functionalities while lying on smart pillows.
Task
Askona approached us with a complex request for a code audit, an overall assessment of the application, and product development. An external perspective on processes and an audit of established practices can significantly accelerate product development and streamline processes.
After the audit, we planned qualitative changes in workflows and formed a backlog of tasks. Additionally, we:

Divided the team into two directions to scale development;

Started implementing new processes into the team’s work, considering development timelines;

Optimized versioning for builds and releases;

Introduced elements of Scrum;

Applied best practices in project management within the Jira task tracker;

Established a process from feature development to release;

Reduced lengthy team discussions.

Planned work on expanding the functionality of sleep reports for the smart pillow.
Solution
We implemented several key functional blocks for the new app concept, taking into account task factors and dependencies:

"Stories" — A section featuring medical expertise and engaging content that helps users understand the importance of healthy sleep and ways to improve it.

"Let’s Analyze Sleep" — This section contains services developed in collaboration with doctors. Its goal is to help assess and improve the user's current condition based on personal metrics and studies, such as sleep quality and stress levels.

"Help with Falling Asleep" — A section with a large library of calming sounds and unique content designed to aid users in falling asleep.

"Recommendations" — Effective solutions for common sleep problems.

"Let’s Relax" — A section featuring practices, videos, and tips for maintaining mental health.
Result
By the end of 2023, we had implemented:

A dashboard showing sleep phases: users can see how much time they spend in each sleep phase—such as REM sleep, deep sleep, and others.

Summary reports that allow tracking sleep dynamics over a week, month, and six months.

Documentation of breathing pauses during sleep.

Enhanced sleep reports: graphs for heart rate, breathing frequency, and movement frequency during sleep. Each graph includes convenient and simple prompts to help users analyze data independently.

A calendar overview of sleep efficiency by month and an extension of report retention periods.

Improved sleep recommendations based on data from smart devices and expertise from sleep specialists.

User support chat in the Telegram social network.
What’s Next?
We are currently working on an AI dream dictionary. In this feature, artificial intelligence analyzes the user's dreams and offers interpretations based on analyses from popular dream dictionaries.
